Overview
Remington Mud Brute tires are a special type of offroad tire that is designed to handle muddy, rocky, sandy, or gravelly offroad conditions. Offroad tires are used on popular offroad vehicles such as Jeep Wranglers, Ford Broncos, Chevrolet Tahoe, Lexus GX, and others. All these are SUV’s or 4x4 vehicles designed to travel over rough terrain.
Offroading requires special tires which can be used on unpaved surfaces without causing damage to your vehicle or resulting in your getting stuck. There are four different types of tires for use on different types of terrain; All terrain tires are designed to operate on a variety of terrains including paved roads, fields, dirt paths, and others.
Snow tires are best for driving in winter conditions and on snow as they are made of a specially formulated rubber that performs well in temperatures under 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Rock tires are highly reinforced and come with big tread blocks that allow them to travel over rocky terrain without puncturing or causing your vehicle to tip over.
The Remington Mud Brute belongs to the category of offroad tires known as mud tires. These tires have special features that allow them to travel through muddy, gravelly, or rocky terrain. Their special features ensure that the car retains traction and does not slip or slide when traveling through muddy conditions.
Types of Mud Tires
Mud tires have several features that allow them to function optimally in muddy terrain. In addition, there are different types of mud tires for different types of muddy terrain. Basic mud tires can be driven on regular paved surfaces along with muddy surfaces that are not too deep. The treads on these tires can be up to one inch thick and they can comfortably be used on both hard surfaces and mud.
Medium mud tires have a tread depth of one to 1.5 inches and are ideal for vehicles that spend a lot of time on muddy surfaces. These are the most common type of mud tire and are commonly used in shallow to medium depth mud. They allow drivers to quickly get into and out of muddy surfaces and are also suitable for other types of soft terrain including snow and sand.
The last type of mud tire is an extreme tire which is used for an activity known as mud bogging. This is a popular sport that involves driving a vehicle through a muddy course or mud pits with the winner being determined by how far along the course they managed to get. Bogging uses mud tires with treads that are a minimum of 1.5 inches thick, allowing the vehicle to travel through the course without getting stuck.
Features of Mud Tires
The Remington Mud Brute and other mud tires have several features in common, all designed to ensure maximum traction, prevent sliding, and keep your vehicle from getting stuck in muddy conditions;
Aggressive tread patterns: Mud tires were once used exclusively by farmers to travel over muddy fields and plow another rough terrain in hostile weather conditions. Today, mud tires are designed with offroad users in mind and feature aggressive tread patterns that offer maximum traction in offroad conditions.
Tread pattern refers to the arrangement of the lugs and voids/grooves in your tire. Lugs refer to the part of the tread that sticks out above the tire surface while voids/grooves refer to the spaces that separate the lugs. Most mud tires use a directional tread pattern which helps to provide traction on muddy surfaces. Directional tread patterns allow vehicles to roll forward in one direction, facilitate quicker dispelling of mud and provide extra traction in muddy conditions.
Aggressive tread patterns have larger spaces between the treads and also use extreme zig-zag patterns to allow your tire to grip the muddy surface underneath and prevent spinning. Simpler tread patterns used on regular tires do not allow for traction and grip and a vehicle with such tires will simply spin round and round in muddy conditions.
Significant tread depth: Most mud tires have a tread depth of one to 1.5 inches, which allows for greater traction, helps your vehicle travel through muddy terrain quickly, and ensures that mud is slung out of the tire quickly in order to avoid clogging and sliding.
Most new mud tires will have a tread depth of 10/32” or 11/32” although some larger SUVs and mud-bogging vehicles may have deeper tread depth. Since tread is what grips the ground as you drive, it is important to ensure that your tread depth remains appropriate for your mud-driving activities.
Deep tread depth is important for ensuring proper grip and traction when driving in muddy or offroad conditions. To ensure maximum safety, ensure that you retain a depth of at least 10/32” on your mud tires and replace them as soon as they reach 2/32”.
Sidewall lugs: The tread pattern in most mud vehicles extends to the side of the tire. Additional lugs provide extra traction and allow for greater grip, preventing the vehicle from slipping or sliding in muddy terrain.
Mud and stone ejectors: Many mud tires have a self-cleaning design which allows them to eject and remove stones, mud, and other debris. Driving in muddy terrain can cause items to embed into your tire grooves, resulting in reduced grip and increased risk of spinning. Ejectors remove these items and ensure that your mud tires perform as optimally as possible.
Puncture protection through multi-ply layer construction: Mud tires have additional protection against punctures thanks to their multi-ply side construction. Most mud tires have a sidewall with a 3-ply construction. Some mud tires and especially those used for mud bogging are made with a 12-ply rating for even greater puncture protection.
Tips For Choosing The Right Mud Tire
There are several factors to consider before buying a mud tire for your car. Tire size is usually the first thing that offroaders look at before making a purchase. There are many different tire sizes available and you will want to ensure that you choose the right one for your car.
Secondly, consider the type of muddy terrain you will be driving over. Will you be driving in a rocky and muddy creek? What will the weather look like on the day of your drive? Will you drive on a mixture of pavement as well as muddy or rocky terrain? The answers to these questions will help you determine which mud tire will be right for you.
Finally, your budget will play an important role in helping you determine the mud tire you buy. Mud tires can range from $200 for a set of four used options to $1700 for popular name brand tires. A rule of thumb when purchasing mud tires is to buy the best ones that you can afford.
