About the Michelin Energy Saver A/S
With gas prices constantly changing, an increasing number of drivers are exploring ways of getting the highest possible fuel mileage from their vehicles.
And one of the most affordable ways of increasing a vehicle’s fuel efficiency is by replacing your old, worn-out tires with a new set of low rolling resistance tires.
With a set of low rolling resistance tires, you will increase your mileage from your gas without compromising on performance.
With that said, several tire manufacturers have joined this bandwagon and released different types of fuel-efficient tires.
And Michelin has not been left behind, with the release of the Michelin Energy Saver A/S tire.
The Energy Saver A/S is Michelin’s premier fuel-efficient tire, built for fuel-efficient passenger cars and hybrids.
It’s engineered to help drivers get the highest possible fuel economy from their vehicles, without sacrificing traction and handling.
Design Features and Technologies
As mentioned above, the Energy Saver A/S is designed to save you money at the gas pump without sacrificing traction and handling.
And Michelin has equipped it with several key features and technologies, to ensure it can deliver according to expectations. Some of these features and technologies include:
Silica-Based Tread Compound
Michelin has utilized a specially engineered, silica-based tread compound on this tire, designed to provide adequate wet and dry traction as well as lower rolling resistance.
This silica-based tread compound has been further molded to form an asymmetrical tread pattern, featuring independent tread blocks, for enhanced traction and handling.
Also, silica-based tread compound helps to enhance the tire’s braking performance. According to Michelin, the Energy Saver A/S stops approximately 8 feet shorter than the majority of its competitors.
Energy Saver Construction
Michelin has further provisioned this tire with its exclusive Energy Saver Construction, featuring its proprietary Green X technology.
This technology helps to keep the tire cooler, resulting in enhanced vehicle operating efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.
According to Michelin, a set of these tires can save you up to $400 over their life, which is quite a considerable achievement.
MaxTouch Technology
Another key feature in this tire is the MaxTouch technology, designed to optimize the tire’s contact with the surface.
And this helps to distribute the braking, cornering and acceleration forces uniformly, leading to extended tread wear.
Comfort Control Technology
Michelin tires are renowned for their comfortable, quiet and smooth ride.
And the Energy Saver A/S is no exception. It features Michelin’s exclusive Comfort Control Technology, which helps to reduce road vibrations and noise.
As a result, you will enjoy a comfortable, quiet and enjoyable ride, whether you are driving around town or cruising on the highway.
Michelin Energy Saver A/S Dry Performance
As its name suggests, the Michelin Energy Saver A/S is an all-season tire. And like all the other all-season tires, it should provide adequate traction and handling on dry roads.
The good news is, the Energy Saver A/S will not disappoint. When I took this tire for a spin, I was impressed by its traction on dry pavement.
Its cornering grip was outstanding, the steering responsiveness was accurate and its overall handling was impressive.
Its decent performance on dry roads can be attributed to its silica-enhanced tread compound and the asymmetric tread pattern.
Michelin Energy Saver A/S Wet Performance
Michelin has outfitted this tire with four wide and deep circumferential grooves. It also features numerous lateral grooves all across its tread surface.
The circumferential grooves and the lateral grooves combine to disperse water away from its surface, thus increasing its hydroplaning resistance.
And as a result, you will enjoy dependable traction on wet and slippery roads, leading to a safe and secure driving experience.
Performance in Snowy and Icy Conditions
Most of the all-season tires that I have used tend to perform poorly on snow and ice.
And I noticed the same problem with this tire. As much as it provided some level of grip on light snow, it started skidding when I tested it on heavy snow.
Its braking on snow and ice-covered roads was not dependable. So, if you drive on snowy or ice-covered roads frequently, then this tire is not ideal for such conditions.
Instead, it will be highly advisable to buy a set of dedicated winter or snow tires.
Michelin Energy Saver A/S Ride Quality
Considering that this tire is designed for family sedans, crossovers, hybrids and various types of passenger cars, it should be quiet, comfortable and refined.
But does it deliver on all those fronts? Well, the Michelin Energy Saver A/S is one of the quietest tires that I’ve ever used.
It remained quiet and comfortable when I was driving on it on the highway, even when I accelerated to higher speeds.
I also noticed that it absorbs small bumps, small potholes and other road imperfections with ease.
So, if you are looking for a fuel-efficient, all-season tire that can provide a comfortable and refined ride, then you should add the Michelin Energy Saver A/S to your list.
Warranties and Guarantees
Similar to other tires from this manufacturer, the Energy Saver A/S is also covered by Michelin’s Promise Plan.
The Michelin Promise Plan is a set of warranties and guarantees, designed to protect the buyer against loss and ensure they are 100% satisfied with this tire.
This plan comprises a materials and workmanship warranty, a treadwear warranty, a customer satisfaction guarantee and roadside assistance service.
Workmanship and Materials Warranty
As is usually the case with most tires from this brand, Michelin offers to replace your Energy Saver A/S tire, if it develops workmanship or materials defects during the life of its original usable tread.
Under this warranty, Michelin will either replace it with a comparable new one or you will get replacement credit, depending on when the defect occurs.
If the defect occurs during the tire’s first 2/32-inch of the original usable tread or within its first 12 months from the purchase date, you will get a free replacement with a comparable new Michelin tire.
Michelin will also take care of mounting and balancing charges. The buyer will be responsible for applicable taxes as well as other service charges such as tire disposal fees.
And if the tire is worn more than 25% of 2/32-inch of its original usable tread, then the replacement will be done on a pro-rata basis.
Under the prorated arrangement, the buyer will be required to pay a portion of the replacement cost.
The buyer’s replacement cost will be obtained by multiplying the percentage of the original usable tread worn off the tire by the dealer’s current selling price.
Also, the buyer will be responsible for mounting and balancing charges, as well as applicable taxes and related charges.
Coverage under this warranty extends until the tire’s tread wears down to its treadwear maintenance indicators.
It’s important to point out that this warranty will not cover any Michelin Energy Saver A/S tire if it's damaged due to abuse, misuse and accidents.
For instance, tires damaged by road hazards, incorrect mounting and dismounting, improper maintenance, overinflating or underinflating, racing activities, or tire alteration will not be eligible to be replaced.
Also, tires damaged by chemical corrosion, fire, accidents, vandalism, weather cracking or improper storage are excluded from this warranty.
Tread Wear Warranty
Michelin will also replace your Energy Saver A/S tire if it fails to reach the warranted mileage.
Therefore, if this tire wears out evenly across its tread before attaining the warranted mileage, it will be eligible for replacement.
But you should note that any replacement done under this warranty is only on a prorated basis.
Under the pro-rata basis, Michelin and the buyer will share the tire’s replacement costs, depending on the percentage of mileage the tire has delivered.
The warranted mileage will depend on the tire’s speed rating. For instance, the Energy Saver A/S with a V-speed rating comes with a 55,000-mile treadwear warranty.
For example, your set of Energy Saver A/S R-speed tires may wear out evenly across their tread surface, having only covered 30,000 miles.
And this means they have only delivered 60% of the warranted mileage. Assuming the tire is being sold at $200, your replacement cost for the tire will be $120 while Michelin will cover the difference of $80 per tire.
You will also have to pay for the entire cost of tire mounting and balancing in addition to the applicable taxes and related service charges.
On the other hand, the Energy Saver A/S R-speed rated version comes with a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty.
For the tire to be replaced under this warranty, you will be required to meet certain conditions such as:
- You should be the original buyer of the tires
- You should own the vehicle on which this tire was originally mounted on
- Your set of Energy Saver A/S tires should have been rotated accordingly
Customer Satisfaction Guarantee
Michelin is always confident that you will love your set of Energy Saver A/S tires. And that’s why it backs this tire with a 60-day customer satisfaction guarantee.
But in case you are not fully satisfied with this tire, you can simply return them to the place where you purchased them.
And once you return them, the dealer will exchange them at no cost with a new set of comparable Michelin tires.
Roadside Assistance Service
Buying this tire also makes you eligible for Michelin’s Roadside Assistance Service, which covers the tire for up to 3 years, from the date of purchase.
Available 24/7, this emergency service is designed to help you get back on the road as soon as possible. It features services like:
- Flat tire change
- Water, oil and gas delivery
- Free towing of up to 150 miles
- Battery jump-start
- Lockout services
Whenever you need any of these services, you simply need to call the provided number and a qualified service professional will be sent to your location.
In case you don’t have an inflated spare, then your vehicle will be towed to the closest approved Michelin auto shop.
As highlighted above, towing is up to 150 miles. If you exceed this limit, you will have to pay for the difference out of pocket.
Sizes and Compatibility
Michelin produces the Energy Saver A/S tire in almost 20 different sizes, ranging from 15 inches to 18 inches. It can fit several types of vehicles like:
