Overview
Costco is one of the most established retail outlets in the U.S. It has more than 500 warehouses, spread across different states and cities in the country. Besides selling products, Costco also offers a vast selection of services.
And with the wide range of services that this retailer offers, you may expect that they can change the tires on your Tesla. But is this the case? Can Costco change tires on a Tesla? Well, this article will explore this topic and much more.
Can Costco Change Tires on a Tesla?
Teslas come with ordinary-sized tires and wheels. Also, almost all the accompanying components for the wheel setup are of ordinary sizes. Therefore, you can have the tires on your Tesla changed at Costco.
However, it’s worth mentioning that Costco doesn’t carry specially designed, sound-dampened Tesla OEM tires. Therefore, you will have to settle for aftermarket tires. In short, don’t expect the replacement tires you get at Costco to be the same quality as the ones that came with your new Tesla.
Process of Changing Tesla Tires at Costco
As highlighted above, you can have the tires on your Tesla changed at Costco. So, how do you go about it? Well, the process is quite a straightforward one. You can either take your vehicle to Costco and purchase the tires directly or simply buy the tires online.
If you opt to purchase the tires online, Costco will ship them free of charge to your selected Costco Tire Center, where they will be installed. Here are the steps to follow when it comes to changing tires on a Tesla at Costco via the online method.
First, you will need to visit the Costco Tire Center. Once you land on this site, you will then search for tires for your Tesla, by keying in details about your Tesla such as the year, make, model and trim.
You will also be required to provide your location. Once you provide these details, the site will provide you with a list of Costco Tire Centers, where the tires will be delivered and installed on your Tesla.
Second, the site will show you a list of available tire sizes for your vehicle. You will then need to choose your preferred tire size. From there, you will be required to confirm details of your vehicle’s tire size as well as load index. These details will be needed to ensure that only the correct tire for your Tesla will be shipped.
Third, the Costco Tire Center will then give you a selection of available tires from different brands such as Bridgestone, Firestone, Michelin, and BF Goodrich, just to name a few.
Fourth, you will now proceed to confirm your order, depending on the tires you have chosen. Your tires will then arrive within five to ten business days at your selected tire center. Costco will notify you via email or phone once your tires arrive at your chosen Tire Center. You will then have up to 14 days to take your Tesla for the installation of the new tires.
As you can see, the whole process of changing tires on Tesla at Costco is quite simple, whether you opt for in-store shopping or online shopping. The tires will take approximately 40 minutes to be swapped. Costco has tire centers in almost every state. Therefore, finding one near you shouldn’t be a challenge.
Cost of Changing Tesla Tires at Costco
Costco charges an installation fee of approximately $20 per tire. Hence, assuming you will have a whole set of four tires changed on your Tesla, you will pay around $80 for installation. Costco also charges a TPMS fee of around $3 per tire, which amounts to $12 for a set of four tires.
However, you also need to consider the cost of buying the new tires. For instance, the Michelin Primacy MXM4 is one of the available tires at Costco for the Tesla Model S. And this tire is currently going for around $326 per tire. So, if you buy a set of four tires, they will cost you approximately $1,304.

Other Places to Change Tires on a Tesla
Regardless of whether you drive a Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X or Model Y, you can have its tires changed at Costco when it’s time for a replacement. However, if Costco doesn’t appeal to you or its tire center is too far from where you live, then you have other options that you can explore. Here are some of the other options to consider for changing tires on a Tesla.
Tire Rack
Tire Rack has an extensive collection of tires that can fit various Tesla models. After purchasing the tire from this store, you can opt to have it installed by the Tire Rack’s mobile installation team. Installation is approximately $32.50 per tire, which totals to around $130 for four tires.
While Tire Rack’s mobile installation is a bit pricier than Costco's, it offers more convenience, since the tires will be brought to your location and installed wherever you are.
Discount Tire
Discount Tire also carries several tires, which can fit almost all Tesla models. After purchasing your set of tires, they will be shipped to the warehouse nearest to your location, where they will be installed.
Discount Tire charges an installation fee of $24 per tire or $96 for a set of four tires. There’s also an environment fee of $4 and a disposal fee of $12 for the four tires. Therefore, the total installation cost for the four tires will be around $112.
Sam’s Club
If you are a member of Sam’s Club, then you can also have the tires on your Tesla changed there. The installation fee at Sam’s Club is $20 per tire, which amounts to $80 for four tires. This installation will cover tire mounting, balancing, rotation as well as road hazard protection, among other features.
Goodyear
Goodyear also offers tire installation services for Teslas. So, if you purchase your Tesla tires via Goodyear, they will install them for you at approximately $18.95 per tire. There’s also an additional TPMS kit fee of around $6 per tire. Therefore, the total cost for changing four tires on your Tesla at Goodyear will be approximately $100.
Wrapping It Up
While Costco is not a Tesla affiliate or an official Tesla seller, you can have the tires on your Tesla changed there. You simply need to purchase a set of tires for your Tesla through Costco and they will handle the rest.
