About the Continental ProContact TX
The Continental ProContact TX is a grand touring all-season tire, designed for performance sedans and sporty coupes.
It’s engineered to deliver dependable year-round performance, all-weather traction as a comfortable driving experience.
While it’s mainly used as original equipment (OE) for most vehicles, you can also buy it as a replacement tire, if you are looking for a grand touring all-season tire.
Design Features and Technologies
Continental all-season tires are equipped with top-notch features and technologies, to ensure they can deliver outstanding traction, handling and a comfortable ride all year round.
And the Continental ProContact TX follows the same trend. Some of its key features and technologies include:
All-Season Tread Compound
Continental has equipped this tire with an all-season tread compound, designed to provide enhanced all-weather and all-season performance.
It will help to maintain the tire at the right flexibility, in various temperatures and conditions.
So, whether you are driving on dry roads, wet surfaces or slippery conditions, you can depend on this tire to get to your destination safely.
Symmetric Tread Pattern
The Continental ProContact TX features a symmetric tread pattern, featuring a balanced sipe-to-block ratio.
This unique tread pattern helps to increase the number of biting edges on this tire, resulting in superior traction, regardless of the time of the year or the road condition.
Its symmetric tread pattern further features four wide circumferential grooves, designed to evacuate water and slush away from its surface.
Undertread Compound
Continental has further provisioned this tire with an undertread compound, which helps to minimize the effect of road vibrations while absorbing shocks.
And as a result, you will enjoy a smooth, quiet and comfortable ride, even when you are driving on rough surfaces or moving at highway speeds
Dry Performance and Wet Performance
One of the best features of this tire is its outstanding performance in dry and wet conditions.
I mounted a set of these tires on my Honda Civic and took it for a spin. Their traction on dry and wet surfaces was more than adequate.
They also provide decent steering response as well as adequate grip even in wet and slippery conditions.
Their outstanding traction in wet conditions and slippery conditions can be attributed to the four wide circumferential grooves on the tread.
As earlier stated, these four wide circumferential grooves help to channel water away from the tire’s surface, leading to superior hydroplaning resistance.
Performance in Ice and Snow
The Continental ProContact TX is a grand touring all-season tire, meaning it’s designed for areas that experience fair weather conditions throughout the year.
As much as it may provide some level of grip on ice-covered or snowy roads, the overall traction is not dependable.
Consequently, you are not assured of a safe ride whenever you are driving with this tire on snowy conditions or ice-covered roads.
Therefore, if you live in an area that experiences severe wintry conditions throughout the year, then the Continental ProContact TX it will be highly recommended to use a dedicated winter tire.
Fuel Efficiency
Most tires from this manufacturer are renowned for their superior fuel efficiency. And the Continental ProContact TX is no exception.
Its low-resistance tread compound and its tread design work together to ensure uniform distribution of driving pressure on its entire tread.
At the same time, its symmetric ribbed tread pattern follows the road surface closely at all times, thus allowing the tire to spread acceleration, cornering and braking forces equally across its surface.
And this will not only lead to longer tread wear but you will also enjoy maximum savings at the gas pump.
Ride Quality
Grand touring tires should provide a comfortable and refined driving experience. So, does the ProContact TX provide a comfortable driving experience?
Well, this tire didn’t disappoint in this area. When I took them for a test, they rolled silently while providing a comfortable and smooth ride all through.
I was expecting higher levels of road noise from this tire, considering its sporting attributes. And I was surprised at how it merges sporty handling and luxurious comfort.
However, I should mention that this tire might produce some road noise if you are driving at higher than the recommended speeds.
But as long as you maintain the right speed, you are assured of a supple, quiet and smooth ride.
According to Continental, this tire is engineered to provide high performance, combined with a quiet and comfortable ride.
And from my experience, I can say that it didn’t disappoint. It delivers well in all these areas.
So, if you are in the market for an all-season grand touring tire that will provide a comfortable, quiet and refined ride, then the Continental ProContact TX deserves a look.
Warranties and Guarantees
All Continental passenger and light truck tires are backed by solid warranties and guarantees.
These warranties and guarantees are designed to protect the customer against tire failure and treadwear damage.
And the ProContact TX is no exception. It comes with Continental’s Total Confidence Plan, featuring:
- Limited manufacture warranty
- Mileage warranty
- Road hazard coverage
- Customer satisfaction trial
- Flat tire roadside assistance
Limited Manufacturer Warranty
This warranty is designed to cushion the buyer against materials and workmanship defects.
Under this warranty, Continental promises to replace your ProContact TX tire with a comparable new one, if it becomes unserviceable due to materials or workmanship defects.
So, if your ProContact TX tire becomes unserviceable, you should return it to your authorized dealer, and you will get a replacement.
The replacement will either be with a free tire or done on a prorated basis, depending on when the tire becomes unserviceable.
Free Replacement
If your ProContact TX tire becomes unserviceable during its first 2/32-inch of original usable tread wear or within 12 months from the purchase date, you will get a comparable new Continental tire, free of charge.
Besides giving you a free new tire, Continental will also take care of mounting and balancing costs while you will be responsible for applicable taxes.
Prorated Replacement
If your Continental ProContact TX tire becomes unserviceable outside the free replacement window, it will be eligible for replacement on a prorated basis.
Under the pro-rated basis, you will be charged a certain amount for the tire’s replacement.
The amount you will pay will be determined by multiplying the percentage of the original usable tread worn off the tire with the dealer’s price.
Tires will be covered for 72 months from the purchase date or until their wear down to their maintenance indicators.
Mileage Warranty
As mentioned above, the Continental ProContact TX also comes with a mileage warranty.
Under the mileage warranty, Continental promises to replace your set of Continental ProContact TX tires, if they fail to deliver the warranted mileage.
You should note that the tire will only be replaced if it’s worn uniformly across its surface, down to its tread wear indicators.
Also, if you have not rotated your tires for at least every 6,000 miles to 8,000 miles, they will not be replaced under this warranty.
Furthermore, tires that have been in use for more than 3 years or 72 months are not eligible to be replaced under this warranty, regardless of the mileage covered when they wear out.
Continental warrants different mileages according to the tire’s speed rating. The warranted mileage is as follows:
- S and T for 65,000 miles
- H for 55,000 miles
- V for 45,000 miles
- W for 40,000 miles
Replacement under this warranty is entirely on a prorated basis, where the buyer will pay a certain amount of money for the tire’s replacement.
The amount of money charged to the buyer is determined by multiplying the percentage of mileage the tire has delivered with the dealer’s current price.
For instance, your W speed-rated Continental ProContact TX tire may wear out uniformly across its tread down to its tread wear indicators, after only attaining 30,000 miles.
And this means that it has only delivered 60% of the warranted mileage. Assuming that the dealer’s price for the tire is $150, the buyer will be charged $90 for its replacement.
Road Hazard Coverage
As the name suggests, the road hazard coverage is designed to protect you against loss, if your Continental ProContact TX tire is damaged by road hazards.
Some of the road hazards covered under this warranty include cuts, bruises, snags and impact breaks.
Under this coverage, Continental offers to replace your ProContact TX tire with a comparable new one, if it’s removed from service due to damage caused by any of the above hazards.
However, you should note that the tire will only be replaced under this warranty if the damage occurs during the tire’s first 2/32-inch of original usable tread wear or within the first 12 months from the purchase date.
Customer Satisfaction Trial
Just like other tires from this brand, the ProContact TX is also backed by Continental’s customer satisfaction trial.
If you purchase a set of four new Continental ProContact TX tires, you are free to return them if you are not satisfied with their performance within 60 days.
And once you return them, the dealer will exchange any or all of the tires with a comparable set of tires.
The exchange will also include free mounting and balancing but you will pay for applicable taxes.
Roadside Assistance
Buying a set of new Continental ProContact TX tires also qualifies you for Continental’s roadside assistance program. This program features services such as:
- Free tire change
- Towing of up to 150 miles
So, if you experience a flat tire anytime you are driving, you just need to call the provided number and an authorized service provider will be sent to your location.
The tire change shouldn’t exceed $200. You will be charged the additional amount if the service exceeds $200.
Also, you will be required to have your own spare tire. In case you don’t have a spare tire, your vehicle will be towed to the nearest tire shop.
However, if the auto repair shop is outside a 150-mile radius, you will be charged the additional mileage.
